Which side of the plane to sit from Alicante International Airport (Alicante) to Tromsø Airport, (Tromso)?
Right Side of the Plane
While both sides offer stunning views, the right side is generally superior for witnessing the transition from the Mediterranean, catching a glimpse of the distant Alps, and getting a front-row seat to the dramatic Lyngen Alps during the final descent into the Arctic Circle.
Alicante & Benidorm
View of the city of Alicante and the iconic skyscraper skyline of Benidorm along the coast.
The Distant Alps
On clear days, the high-altitude peaks of the European Alps can be seen on the eastern horizon while over France.
The Øresund Bridge
The massive engineering marvel connecting Denmark and Sweden is often visible near Copenhagen.
Scandinavian Spine
The continuous mountain range running through the heart of Sweden and Norway.
Lyngen Alps
Spectacular, jagged peaks rising directly from the sea just east of Tromsø during the final approach.
The right side is highly recommended for the descent into Tromsø, as it often passes close to the Lyngen Alps. If flying during the night in winter, keep your window shade open and the cabin lights off for a chance to spot the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) looking north/east.
Costa Blanca Coastline
Aerial views of the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters near Alicante immediately after takeoff.
The Pyrenees
Dramatic crossing of the rugged mountain range marking the border between Spain and France.
French Countryside
Geometric agricultural patterns and historic chateaus across central and northern France.
The Skagerrak
Crossing the strait between Denmark and Norway/Sweden, where the North Sea meets the Baltic.
Arctic Fjords
Stunning views of the deep, narrow inlets of the Norwegian Sea as you approach Tromsø.
Choose the left side for better lighting during morning flights, as you will be facing away from the direct sun. During the winter 'Polar Night,' this side offers the best chance to see the deep blue twilight over the ocean. It is also excellent for viewing the Pyrenees shortly after departure.
