Our Recommendation
8.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side is superior for this North-to-South journey because it offers direct views of the dramatic Andes mountain range and famous volcanic peaks throughout Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, as well as the morning sun for early departures.

Left Side Highlights
8.8
🌊

Caribbean Archipelago

Stunning views of the turquoise waters around Cuba and the Cayman Islands shortly after leaving U.S. airspace.

🏔️

Colombian Andes

The plane traverses the spine of the Central Cordillera, offering views of deep green valleys and jagged peaks.

🌋

Avenue of Volcanoes

As you pass through Ecuador, look for the snow-capped symmetrical cone of Cotopaxi and the massive Chimborazo.

❄️

Cordillera Blanca

In Northern Peru, the highest tropical mountain range in the world showcases Huascarán, the country's tallest peak.

For the best mountain views, choose a daytime flight. If you are on an overnight flight, the sunrise over the Amazon basin to the east will be visible on this side. During the descent into Lima, this side often faces the city's sprawling urban landscape against the Andean foothills.

Right Side Highlights
7.5
⛴️

Panama Canal

On clear days, the engineering marvel of the canal and the dense clusters of cargo ships waiting in the Pacific are visible.

🌅

Pacific Horizon

Vast, unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean, particularly striking during late afternoon flights as the sun sets over the water.

🏜️

Sechura Desert

Witness the stark contrast where the arid coastal dunes of Northern Peru meet the crashing waves of the Pacific.

🏙️

Lima Costa Verde

During the final approach into LIM, this side often provides a view of the dramatic cliffs of Miraflores and the shoreline.

The right side is ideal for sunset photography on afternoon departures. To see the Panama Canal, you must be alert about 3-4 hours into the flight. Note that Lima is often covered in a coastal mist called 'Garúa' from May to October, which may obscure ground views during landing.
