Our Recommendation
8.5

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer scenic views of the Iberian Peninsula, the right side is generally superior for its spectacular views of the Montserrat mountains shortly after takeoff and the iconic panoramic approach over Lisbon's historic city center and the Tagus River.

Right Side Highlights
8.5
⛰️

Montserrat Massif

The serrated, holy mountain of Catalonia stands out clearly to the north shortly after the climb out of Barcelona.

🏔️

Sierra de Gredos

The high granite peaks of central Spain, often covered in snow from late autumn through early spring.

🏰

Lisbon City Center

A world-class view of the Alfama district, the São Jorge Castle, and the Praça do Comércio if landing on Runway 21.

🌉

25 de Abril Bridge

The iconic red suspension bridge and the Sanctuary of Christ the King are visible as the plane banks toward the runway.

The right side is highly recommended for the 'Lisbon City approach.' For the best lighting on the city's colorful facades and the Tagus River, aim for a late afternoon flight when the sun is lower in the west. Avoid seats directly over the wing to ensure an unobstructed view of the Montserrat peaks.

Left Side Highlights
7.2
🏖️

Barcelona Coastline

Panoramic views of the Mediterranean beaches, the Olympic Port, and the industrial harbor immediately after takeoff from El Prat.

🌾

Castilian Meseta

The vast, arid plains of central Spain, featuring a patchwork of golden wheat fields and reddish earth.

🌊

Vasco da Gama Bridge

A stunning view of the 12-kilometer long bridge spanning the Tagus Estuary during the initial stages of the Lisbon approach.

🌳

Alentejo Cork Forests

The characteristic rolling hills of southern Portugal, dotted with cork oak trees and traditional white farmhouses.

Choose the left side for morning flights to keep the sun behind you while viewing the Spanish interior. During landing, watch for the massive salt pans and wetlands of the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve just before touchdown.
