Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior vantage point for the dramatic transition from the high Andes to the vast Llanos, culminating in spectacular views of the Orinoco River and Tuparro's unique rock formations.

Right Side Highlights
8.8
🏔️

Chingaza & Sumapaz

View the high-altitude paramo ecosystems and jagged southern peaks of the Eastern Andes shortly after leaving Bogota.

🌾

The Infinite Llanos

A stunning 'sea of grass' stretches to the horizon, dotted with traditional cattle ranches (hatos) and isolated clusters of palms.

🌳

Tuparro National Park

Near the end of the flight, look for the dense gallery forests and ancient geological structures of this remote biosphere reserve.

🌊

The Orinoco Confluence

Witness the massive meeting point where the Meta River flows into the mighty Orinoco, the third-largest river in the world by discharge.

🗿

Cerros de Maipures

During the descent, look for the dramatic granite outcrops and rapids that von Humboldt once called the 'eighth wonder of the world'.

The right side is essential for the arrival sequence into PCR. Request a window seat away from the wing for the best view of the Orinoco. This side is particularly beautiful in the late afternoon (sunset flights) as the light reflects off the river's rapids and rock formations.

⛰️

Eastern Cordillera Peaks

Immediately after takeoff, view the rugged, mist-covered ridges of the Andes as the plane climbs out of the Bogota savanna.

🌊

Guatavita & Tominé

If the flight path takes a northern departure, the shimmering blue reservoirs of the Cundinamarca region are visible below.

🐍

Meta River Meanders

The complex, winding oxbow lakes and silver curves of the Meta River dominate the landscape as you cross into the Casanare region.

🇻🇪

Venezuelan Border

As you approach Puerto Carreño, the distant horizon to the north marks the international boundary along the Arauca region.

Sit on the left for morning flights to keep the sun behind you, providing clearer visibility of the river networks. It is also the better side for spotting the northern expanses of the Meta department's flooded savannas during the wet season.
