Our Recommendation
8.5

Right Side of the Plane

The right side provides a superior vantage point for the English south coast, the stunning white cliffs of the Normandy coastline, and a better chance of seeing the Paris skyline including the Eiffel Tower during the landing approach.

Right Side Highlights
8.5
⛰️

Mendip Hills

Immediate views of Cheddar Gorge and the limestone ridges of Somerset just south of Bristol Airport.

🏝️

Isle of Wight

A spectacular view of the Needles and the Solent, one of the world's busiest sailing channels.

🌊

Alabaster Coast

The dramatic white chalk cliffs of Normandy, specifically around Étretat and Fécamp, visible after crossing the Channel.

🐍

Seine River Meanders

The winding loops of the Seine river as it snakes through the French countryside toward the capital.

🗼

Paris Skyline

Depending on the landing pattern, you can often spot the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, and the skyscrapers of La Défense to the south.

The right side is the 'money side' for this route. Aim for an afternoon flight for the best lighting on the Normandy cliffs. During the descent into CDG, the pilots often perform a U-turn that brings the Eiffel Tower into view on this side if approaching from the north.

Left Side Highlights
7.2
🏛️

Bath and the Cotswolds

Aerial views of the historic Roman city and the rolling limestone hills of the southern Cotswolds shortly after takeoff.

🌾

Salisbury Plain

Vast stretches of chalk plateau in Wiltshire, often showing military training areas and ancient earthworks.

🌳

South Downs

The green ridges of England's youngest National Park stretching towards the Sussex coast.

🚢

Dieppe Port

A clear view of the historic French ferry port and its distinct pebble beaches upon entering French airspace.

⛪

Beauvais Cathedral

On a clear day, look for the towering Gothic structure of Saint Peter of Beauvais during the mid-descent phase.

Sit near the front or behind the wing to avoid engine heat haze. This side is better for morning flights to avoid the direct southern sun glare. Watch for the dense forests of northern France as you approach the Oise region.
