Which side of the plane to sit from M. R. Štefánik Airport (Bratislava) to Košice Airport (Kosice)?
Left Side of the Plane
The left side offers a front-row seat to the High Tatras, the smallest high-mountain range in the world, and several UNESCO World Heritage sites including Spiš Castle.
Little Carpathians
The Malé Karpaty mountain range starting right at Bratislava, covered in dense forests and vineyards.
High Tatras Panorama
The dramatic, jagged granite peaks of Gerlachovský štít and Lomnický štít rising sharply from the Poprad Basin.
Liptovská Mara
A massive turquoise reservoir nestled between the High and Low Tatra mountain ranges.
Spiš Castle
One of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe, perched prominently on a travertine hill near Spišské Podhradie.
Poprad City
The gateway city to the Tatras, visible just before the final descent into the Košice region.
Sit in a window seat on the left (usually seat A) for the best views of the High Tatras. Morning flights are ideal as the sun illuminates the southern faces of the mountains. Keep your camera ready about 20-30 minutes after takeoff from Bratislava to capture the alpine peaks and Spiš Castle shortly thereafter.
Low Tatras National Park
The long, forested ridges of the Nízke Tatry, including the peak of Chopok and Ďumbier.
Banská Bystrica Area
The historic mining city and the surrounding Hron River valley winding through central Slovakia.
Slovak Karst
Unique limestone plateaus and deep canyons near the border with Hungary as you approach Košice.
U.S. Steel Košice
A massive industrial complex on the outskirts of the city, showing the scale of Slovakia's heavy industry.
Košice Old Town
During the final approach, the red roofs and St. Elisabeth's Cathedral are often visible if landing from the south.
Choose the right side (usually seat F) for deep forest views and the industrial landscape of eastern Slovakia. This side is particularly scenic during late afternoon flights when the sun sets over the Low Tatras, casting long shadows across the valleys. It also offers a better view of the massive steelworks during the landing pattern.
