Our Recommendation
9.5

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers unparalleled views of the highest peaks of the Hindu Kush range, including the towering Tirich Mir, and a stunning perspective of the Swat Valley's alpine beauty.

Left Side Highlights
9.5
🏔️

Tirich Mir

Visible shortly after takeoff, this is the highest peak of the Hindu Kush range at 7,708 meters.

🏞️

Swat Valley

Breathtaking views of the lush green valleys and the meandering Swat River below.

❄️

Hindu Kush Panorama

A continuous chain of snow-capped peaks that define the rugged northern landscape of Pakistan.

🌊

Tarbela Reservoir

The massive turquoise expanse of the Indus River's largest dam becomes visible as you exit the mountains.

🌳

Margalla Hills

The forested green ridges that cradle the capital city of Islamabad during the final descent.

Morning flights are highly recommended to see the peaks illuminated by the eastern sun without the haze that develops later in the day. Ensure you sit in front of the wing (Rows 1-5 on an ATR) to avoid engine obstruction of the high-altitude peaks. Keep your camera ready immediately after takeoff as the climb out of Chitral is steep and scenic.

Right Side Highlights
7.5
🛣️

Lowari Pass

Look down to see the zig-zagging mountain roads and the entrance to the strategic Lowari Tunnel.

⛰️

Dir Mountains

The rugged, less glaciated but equally impressive mountains of the Upper Dir district.

🌾

KPK Plains

The dramatic transition where the mountains finally give way to the fertile agricultural plains near Mardan.

🏢

ISB Terminal

Provides a great aerial view of the modern, 'Y' shaped architecture of the New Islamabad International Airport.

While less peak-heavy, this side is excellent for seeing the engineering marvels of the mountain passes. During winter months, this side captures the afternoon sun, making it warmer inside the cabin but potentially causing glare on your photos. It offers a better view of the final turn into the Islamabad approach path.
