COSORD

Our Recommendation
8.2

Right Side of the Plane

The Right Side is preferred primarily for the spectacular views of the Chicago skyline and the Lake Michigan shoreline during the final approach into O'Hare, which is often more visually rewarding than the northern suburbs seen from the left.

Right Side Highlights
8.2
🏜️

High Plains Vistas

Sweeping views of the sparsely populated eastern Colorado plains stretching toward the horizon.

🚜

Missouri River

The winding curves of the Missouri River near Omaha or Kansas City depending on the specific flight path.

🏙️

Chicago Loop

World-famous skyscrapers like the Willis Tower and 875 North Michigan Avenue are often visible on the approach.

🎡

Navy Pier & Shoreline

Stunning views of the Lake Michigan waterfront and the pier if the aircraft performs a standard 'downwind' leg over the lake.

The right side is the 'money' side for landing. Flights into ORD frequently circle over Lake Michigan before heading west to land; this provides a panoramic view of the entire city. For the best experience, choose a seat behind the wing to ensure an unobstructed view of the skyline against the blue of the lake.

Left Side Highlights
7.5
🏔️

Pikes Peak

Look back immediately after takeoff to see the towering 14,115-foot summit of the southern Front Range.

🏙️

Denver Skyline

On a clear day, the high-rises of Denver are often visible to the North as the plane climbs and turns east.

🌽

Great Plains Mosaic

Geometric patterns of center-pivot irrigation circles create a green and brown patchwork across Nebraska and Iowa.

🌊

Mississippi River

A massive geographic milestone marking the transition from the Great Plains into the industrial Midwest.

Sit on the left for morning flights to avoid direct sun glare. During winter, look for the 'snow line' where the high desert of Colorado transitions into the snow-covered fields of the Midwest. If the flight approaches ORD from the north, this side offers views of the North Shore suburbs.
