Our Recommendation
8.5

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer stunning views of the Saharan transition, the Right Side is preferred for its better perspective of the High Plateaus and the spectacular approach into the M'Zab Valley's unique urban layout.

Right Side Highlights
8.5
🌾

High Plateaus

The vast, semi-arid plains between the Tell Atlas and the Saharan Atlas, dotted with salt lakes.

⛰️

Djebel Amour

Striking folded mountain ridges of the Saharan Atlas range showing unique geological stratification.

🏛️

The Pentapolis

The five historic cities of the M'Zab Valley, including Ghardaïa, appearing as concentric circles of pastel houses.

💧

Oued M'Zab

The dry riverbed that dictated the thousand-year-old urban planning of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The right side is essential for the descent into Ghardaia. The pilot usually banks in a way that provides a panoramic view of the ancient Ksar. Mid-day flights offer the best contrast for seeing the white and blue architecture against the red desert sand.

Left Side Highlights
7.8
🌉

Constantine Bridges

Aerial view of the 'City of Bridges' and the deep Rhumel River gorge immediately after takeoff.

🏔️

Aurès Mountains

Eastern stretches of the Saharan Atlas, featuring rugged peaks and deep canyons carved by ancient rivers.

🌴

Biskra Oases

Distant views of the vast date palm groves marking the gateway to the Sahara desert.

🏜️

The Grand Erg

Expansive views of the shifting sand dunes and rocky hamadas as the landscape turns deep orange.

Sit on the left for softer morning light when flying south. This side provides excellent views of the Aurès massif. Watch for the 'balcony' villages of Ghoufi if the flight path tracks slightly eastward.
