DRS → BCN
Which side of the plane to sit from Dresden Airport (Dresden) to Barcelona International Airport (Barcelona)?
Right Side of the Plane
The Right side is the clear winner for its approach views of the Catalan coastline and the city of Barcelona itself. While the Left side offers excellent Alpine views, the Right side provides a panoramic perspective of the Pyrenees, the unique Montserrat mountain, and the iconic Eixample district grid during the final descent into BCN.
Erzgebirge Mountains
Shortly after departure, view the dense forests and rolling hills of the Ore Mountains bordering Germany and Czechia.
Massif Central
Cross over the ancient volcanic landscapes and rugged plateaus of south-central France.
Pyrenees Mountains
As you enter Spain, the jagged peaks of the Pyrenees provide a dramatic natural border crossing.
Montserrat Massif
Just before landing, look for the unique multi-peaked sawtooth mountain range and its famous monastery.
Barcelona Cityscape
During the standard approach to Runway 25R, you get a bird's-eye view of the Sagrada Família, Agbar Tower, and Camp Nou.
The Right side is optimal for photography during the final 10 minutes of the flight. For the most iconic views of Barcelona's urban layout, request a seat forward of the wing. If flying in the late afternoon, this side provides a beautiful golden hour glow over the Pyrenees and the Catalan landscape.
Dresden and Elbe Valley
Upon takeoff, enjoy views of the historic Dresden city center and the winding Elbe River as the plane turns south.
Swiss and French Alps
Spectacular views of the northern Alpine chain, including snow-capped peaks and glaciers as you traverse central Europe.
Lake Geneva
Look for the distinctive crescent shape of Lac Léman and the Jet d'Eau in Geneva depending on the specific flight corridor.
Costa Brava
As the plane reaches the Mediterranean, the rugged cliffs and turquoise bays of the northern Spanish coast come into view.
Mediterranean Final Approach
When landing from the east, you will have an unobstructed view of the sea before banking toward the airport.
Choose the Left side for morning flights to get the best lighting on the Alps without direct sun glare. This side is also better if the flight path takes a more easterly route over the French Riviera. However, be aware that you may miss the city view during the landing at BCN if the plane approaches from the sea.
