Our Recommendation
8.2

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer scenic views, the right side provides a better perspective of the Edinburgh skyline during takeoff and more dramatic mountain terrain including the Vosges and Jura ranges during the descent into the Rhine Valley.

Right Side Highlights
8.2
🏰

Edinburgh Cityscape

Unmatched views of Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Arthur's Seat immediately after takeoff from EDI.

🏙️

London & South East

On clear days, the distant urban sprawl of London and the Thames Estuary are visible to the southwest.

🗼

Paris Distant View

Depending on the airway, the distant lights or layout of the Paris metropolitan area may be visible.

⛰️

Vosges Mountains

Dramatic views of the rounded peaks (ballons) of the Vosges mountain range during the descent into Mulhouse.

💧

The Rhine River

The winding Rhine, marking the border between France and Germany, is prominent just before landing.

The right side is highly recommended for the initial climb to see Edinburgh and the final 20 minutes of the flight. For evening flights, you may catch a sunset over the French countryside. Ensure you have a window seat forward of the wing to clearly see the Vosges mountains without engine obstruction.

Left Side Highlights
7.5
🌉

Firth of Forth

Aerial view of the iconic Forth Bridges and the islands dotting the estuary shortly after departure.

🌊

Northumberland Coast

Glance at the rugged northeast coastline of England, often including views of Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle.

🍇

Champagne Vineyards

The rolling agricultural patterns and famous vineyards of the Grand Est region in France.

🌲

Black Forest

As you approach the border, the dense, dark canopy of the German Black Forest appears on the horizon.

Sit on the left for morning flights to avoid the direct glare of the sun as you travel south-southeast. This side is better for spotting the North Sea coastline and the distant German forests during the final approach phase.
