FRA â BOS
Which side of the plane to sit from Frankfurt am Main Airport (Frankfurt) to General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport (Boston)?
Right Side of the Plane
The right side is the undisputed winner, offering a front-row seat to the dramatic Greenland ice sheet, massive glaciers, and the rugged, iceberg-laden coastline of Labrador.
Scottish Highlands
On more northerly routes, catch a glimpse of the rugged peaks and lochs of northern Scotland.
Southern Iceland
Distant views of the volcanic landscape if the Great Circle path tracks slightly north.
Greenland Ice Cap
One of the most spectacular sights in aviation: a vast, shimmering white expanse of ice and deep crevasses.
Greenland Fjords
Dramatic mountainous inlets and massive calving glaciers along the eastern and western coasts.
Labrador Coast
Untamed wilderness and seasonal icebergs floating in the cold waters off the Canadian coast.
Maine Wilderness
Dense forests and the jagged, rocky inlets of the Down East Maine coastline.
The right side offers the most dramatic scenery during the mid-portion of the flight. As you head west, the sun is typically to the south, providing excellent lighting for the white terrain of Greenland without harsh glare on your window. For the best chance to see Greenland, check the flight path on the seatback screen; if the latitude exceeds 60 degrees North, you are in for a treat. This side is also better for spotting icebergs in the Labrador Sea during spring and early summer.
North Atlantic Horizon
Expansive views of the deep blue ocean and occasional ship wakes during the crossing.
Nova Scotia Coastline
The rugged beaches and lighthouses of the Canadian Maritimes as you approach North America.
Cape Cod
The distinctive hooked peninsula of Massachusetts is often visible during the descent.
Boston Harbor
Views of the harbor islands and the downtown skyline depending on the landing runway.
The left side is preferable for seeing the New England coastline and the curvature of Cape Cod during the final approach. On afternoon flights, this side will experience direct sunlight for much of the journey, which can make it quite warm and bright, but offers a beautiful sunset over the Atlantic as you near the East Coast.
