Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side is superior for this transatlantic crossing, offering breathtaking views of the Greenland ice sheet and the dramatic coastlines of Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island.

Right Side Highlights
8.8
⛰️

Scottish Highlands

Aerial views of the rugged peaks and deep lochs of Northern Scotland shortly after takeoff.

🧊

Greenland Ice Cap

One of the world's most stunning sights, featuring vast glaciers and deep blue fjords filled with icebergs.

🐋

Newfoundland Tundra

The wild, uninhabited landscapes of the Great Northern Peninsula and Gros Morne area.

🌲

Cape Breton Island

The famous Cabot Trail and the sparkling waters of Bras d'Or Lake are often visible.

🌊

Gulf of St. Lawrence

The vast estuary where the St. Lawrence River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

The right side is the prime choice for photography. The sun will be behind or above the plane, illuminating the Greenland ice sheet and the Canadian Maritimes perfectly. Greenland usually appears 4-5 hours into the flight. In late spring (May-June), look closely at the Newfoundland coast to spot white specks in the water; these are often massive icebergs in 'Iceberg Alley'.

🌊

North Sea Coast

Early views of the coastline as the flight exits mainland Europe towards the Atlantic.

🛳️

Atlantic Shipping Lanes

Spot large cargo vessels and tankers navigating the vast ocean expanse below.

🎣

Nova Scotia Shoreline

Rugged rocky beaches and small fishing villages appearing as you approach the Canadian coast.

🏙️

Halifax Skyline

A potential view of the city and its historic harbor during the final descent into YHZ.

Since this is a westbound flight, the sun will be on the left side for the majority of the journey, which can cause significant glare and heat. It is best to keep the window shade partially closed during the mid-flight ocean crossing. However, about 30 minutes before arrival, the views of the Nova Scotian coastline are excellent if the approach path comes from the south.
