Which side of the plane to sit from Tokyo Haneda International Airport (Tokyo) to Dubai International Airport (Dubai)?
Right Side of the Plane
The right side of the aircraft offers the most iconic landmarks, including an early view of Mount Fuji and the dramatic, colorful geological structures of the Iranian plateau.
Mount Fuji
Japan's most iconic peak is visible on the right shortly after takeoff when departing Haneda toward the west.
Himalayan Fringe
On northern-latitude tracks, the distant snow-capped peaks of the world's highest range can be seen over China.
Iranian Plateau
Incredible desert landscapes featuring unique salt domes and swirling multi-colored rock formations.
Strait of Hormuz
A bird's-eye view of the Musandam Peninsula and the vital maritime gateway between the Gulfs.
Port Rashid
Views of Dubai's historic creek and massive shipping port as the aircraft nears the runway.
The right side is the 'pro' choice for this route. To see Mount Fuji, you must look out within the first 15-20 minutes of flight. For the desert landscapes of Iran, these are best viewed in the 2 hours before landing if the flight arrives in the late afternoon or during the day. If taking the midnight flight from Haneda, Fuji may only be a silhouette, but the sunrise over the Persian Gulf is spectacular.
East China Sea
Vast ocean vistas as the flight exits Japanese airspace and heads toward mainland Asia.
Al Hajar Mountains
Dramatic, craggy dark-rock mountains of Oman visible during the initial descent into the UAE.
Downtown Dubai
Excellent views of the Burj Khalifa and the financial district skyline during the typical landing approach.
The World Islands
The massive man-made archipelago is often visible to the left when the plane loops over the Gulf for arrival.
Choose the left side if you want the best chance of seeing the Burj Khalifa and Dubai's skyscrapers during the final approach. Since many HND-DXB flights are overnight, the morning sun will be on the left side as you fly west, which can be bright; keep your window shade down unless viewing specific landmarks.
