Our Recommendation
6.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers a more direct view of the Tennessee River valley upon departure and is generally positioned better for viewing the Atlanta skyline and major sports landmarks during the descent into ATL.

Left Side Highlights
6.8
🌊

Lake Guntersville

A massive, winding reservoir of the Tennessee River visible shortly after departing Huntsville.

⛰️

Lookout Mountain

The southern terminus of this famous ridge line stretching across the border into Georgia.

🏙️

Atlanta Skyline

Panoramic views of Buckhead, Midtown, and Downtown during the standard approach patterns.

🏟️

Mercedes-Benz Stadium

The distinct pinwheel roof of the stadium is a primary landmark when landing from the west.

For morning flights, sit on the left to keep the sun at your back for clearer photos. This side is prime for spotting the skyline if the plane approaches ATL from the west, which is common during fair weather.

Right Side Highlights
6.3
🚀

Redstone Arsenal

Visible immediately after takeoff, this massive facility is the heart of US Army aviation and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.

🌲

Sand Mountain

The broad, flat-topped plateau of the southern Appalachian Mountains dominating the landscape of northeast Alabama.

💧

Lake Allatoona

A large, popular recreational lake located just northwest of the Atlanta metropolitan area.

⚾

Truist Park

The home of the Atlanta Braves and the surrounding Battery development are clearly visible in the Cumberland district.

The right side is excellent for early-morning departures to see the industrial and military landscape of Huntsville. However, be prepared for intense direct sunlight on afternoon flights heading southeast toward Georgia.
