IGR → SLA
Which side of the plane to sit from Cataratas Del Iguazú International Airport (Iguazu Falls) to Martin Miguel De Guemes International Airport (Salta)?
Right Side of the Plane
The right side is generally superior for this route as it offers the best chance to catch a glimpse of the Iguazu Falls immediately after takeoff and provides a more dramatic view of the Andean foothills during the descent into Salta.
Iguazu Falls
Depending on the departure path from IGR, you can see the massive white spray of the 'Garganta del Diablo'.
Misiones Rainforest
A dense, emerald-green canopy of subtropical jungle surrounding the airport area.
El Impenetrable
The northern reaches of the dry Chaco forest, one of the most remote wild areas in Argentina.
Valle de Lerma
The stunning final approach through the mountains into the valley where Salta city is nestled.
Choose the right side for the highest probability of seeing the falls shortly after takeoff; even if the plane turns south, the scale of the park is visible. As you approach Salta, the right side provides a spectacular view of the rugged, multi-colored terrain of the pre-Andean cordillera. Afternoon flights are ideal on this side as the sun will be behind or above the aircraft, illuminating the mountains.
Paraná River
View the massive river system that forms the natural border between Misiones and Corrientes provinces.
Bermejo River Meanders
The brown, winding waters of the Bermejo River create intricate loops across the flat Chaco landscape.
Southern Gran Chaco
Vast stretches of agricultural land and wetlands characteristic of the northern Argentine plains.
Sierra de Metán
The first significant mountain ridges that signal the transition into the Salta province territory.
On the left side, expect strong afternoon sun which can cause glare when flying westbound. The best views occur in the final 20 minutes of the flight as the flat plains suddenly erupt into the first ridges of the Andes. Watch for the change in soil color from the deep red of Misiones to the dusty browns of the Chaco.
