Our Recommendation
7.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side is generally preferred for this short hop, offering the best views of the vast Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge shortly after takeoff and a higher probability of spotting the Atlanta skyline during the standard arrival patterns into ATL.

Left Side Highlights
7.8
🐍

St. Johns River

Immediately after takeoff, catch the winding path of the longest river in Florida as it snakes through Jacksonville.

🐊

Okefenokee Swamp

A massive, ancient peat-filled wetland straddling the Georgia-Florida line, visible as a dark, textured expanse of water and cypress.

🏙️

Downtown Atlanta

During the descent and approach, the left side often provides a clear view of the skyscrapers in Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead.

✈️

ATL Airport Layout

As the aircraft banks for final approach, observe the scale of the world's busiest airport and its five parallel runways.

Sit on the left for the best chance of seeing the Atlanta skyline. For the most impressive views of the Okefenokee Swamp, flight paths usually pass just to the east, making the left side ideal. Morning flights provide excellent lighting on the swamp and the city without harsh glare.

Right Side Highlights
6.2
🏝️

Cumberland Island

On a clear departure, look east to see the southern tip of Georgia's largest barrier island and the Atlantic coastline.

🌲

Georgia Pine Forests

Fly over the heart of Georgia's timber country, characterized by vast, neatly rowed plantations of Southern yellow pine.

⛰️

Stone Mountain

If the flight approaches from the east, look for the massive quartz monzonite dome rising abruptly from the flat landscape.

The right side is better for catching glimpses of the Atlantic coast during the initial climb. If landing towards the west (standard for ATL), the right side may see the north Georgia foothills in the far distance. Late afternoon flights on this side may experience significant sun glare.
