Our Recommendation
8.5

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers a superior view of the dramatic transition from the lush Luoxiao Mountains of Jiangxi to the towering Qinling Mountains, which serve as the primary geographical divider between North and South China.

Left Side Highlights
8.5
⛰️

Luoxiao Mountains

Dense, subtropical green ridges surrounding the Jinggangshan area immediately after takeoff.

💧

Dongting Lake

In the distance to the west, you may spot the silvery expanse of China's second-largest freshwater lake.

🏞️

Hubei Highlands

The rugged terrain of western Hubei, featuring deep valleys and karst-like limestone formations.

🏔️

Qinling Mountains

A spectacular view of the massive mountain range with peaks exceeding 3,000 meters just before the descent into Xi'an.

🌾

Wei River Valley

The stark transition from the high mountains to the yellowish, fertile Loess Plateau landscape.

Sit on the left for the best views of the Qinling Mountains during the descent. Morning flights are ideal to avoid the afternoon haze common over the Hubei plains. During sunset flights, the left side will catch the golden light reflecting off the mountain ridges and the Wei River.

Right Side Highlights
7.8
🌊

Gan River

The major waterway of Jiangxi province winding its way north toward the Yangtze.

🚢

Yangtze River Crossing

A wide view of the Yangtze River as it meanders through the central plains near the Hubei-Henan border.

🏙️

Wuhan/Jingzhou Outskirts

The sprawling urban development and industrial hubs of the central Yangtze corridor.

🚜

Henan Agricultural Plains

A vast geometric patchwork of wheat and corn fields that dominate the landscape of central China.

🧱

Xi'an Metropolitan Area

As the plane turns for final approach, views of the dense modern high-rises and potentially the historic city layout.

The right side is excellent for seeing the sheer scale of Chinese infrastructure and agriculture. If the flight path approaches XIY from the east, the right side may offer a distant glimpse of the Terracotta Army site and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor.
