Our Recommendation
9.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side provides an unparalleled view of the highest peaks on Earth, including Mount Everest and the dramatic landscape of the Tibetan Plateau.

Left Side Highlights
9.8
🏔️

Mount Everest

The world's highest peak is visible shortly after takeoff from Kathmandu, standing prominently above the clouds.

🧊

Makalu

A massive pyramid-shaped mountain that is the fifth highest in the world, located near Everest.

🏜️

Tibetan Plateau

The vast, arid, high-altitude landscape known as the Roof of the World, featuring turquoise lakes.

🌊

Yarlung Tsangpo River

Visible as it snakes through deep mountain valleys before turning into the Brahmaputra.

❄️

Namcha Barwa

A stunning peak located at the Great Bend of the Yarlung Tsangpo in the eastern Himalayas.

For the most spectacular views of the Everest range, choose a flight departing Kathmandu in the early morning (before 9:00 AM) when the air is clearest. Seats in the front or rear of the plane are essential to avoid the wing blocking the mountain vistas. Everest typically appears on the left about 15-20 minutes after departure.

Right Side Highlights
7.2
🏘️

Kathmandu Valley

Aerial views of the dense urban sprawl of Kathmandu surrounded by emerald green terraced hills.

🏔️

Gangkhar Puensum

Distant views of the highest unclimbed mountain in the world, located on the Bhutan-China border.

🌲

Hengduan Mountains

Densely forested, steep-sided mountain ranges as the plane enters the Sichuan province.

🏙️

Sichuan Basin

The dramatic transition from high mountains to the fertile, low-lying plains of Chengdu during descent.

The right side is ideal for seeing the lush, rugged terrain of the eastern Himalayas and the deep river gorges of Sichuan. It provides a better perspective of the descent into the Chengdu plains. This side is often less affected by direct sunlight glare on afternoon flights heading east.
