Our Recommendation
8.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers a premier view of the American West's most famous red rock formations and the highest concentration of National Parks in Utah before crossing the rugged heart of the Colorado Rockies.

Left Side Highlights
8.8
🔥

Valley of Fire

Visible shortly after departure, notice the bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops surrounded by grey limestone mountains.

🏜️

Zion & Bryce Canyon

Look for the deep carved canyons of Zion followed by the high-altitude pink and orange plateaus of Bryce Canyon's hoodoos.

🌌

Canyonlands

As you traverse Utah, the rugged 'Island in the Sky' mesa and the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers are visible.

🏔️

Colorado Rockies

Fly over the high peaks of the Sawatch and Front Ranges, often snow-capped even into early summer.

🏙️

Denver Skyline

On clear days, the Mile High City is visible against the backdrop of the Flatirons and the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Sit on the left to avoid direct southern sun glare during the day. This side provides the best view of the red rock transitions in Utah. In the winter, the contrast between the white snow and red earth is most striking from this side of the aircraft.

Right Side Highlights

🌊

Lake Mead & Hoover Dam

Immediately after takeoff, the massive reservoir and the engineering marvel of the Hoover Dam are prominent landmarks.

🛶

Lake Powell

The winding, bright blue waters of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area contrast sharply against the desert floor.

🗿

Monument Valley

In the distance to the south, the iconic sandstone buttes and mesas of the Navajo Nation can often be spotted.

⛰️

Pikes Peak

Watch for the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak standing as a sentinel on the edge of the Great Plains.

🌉

Mississippi River

The flight crosses the massive Mississippi River near the Iowa-Illinois border, marking the final approach toward Rockford.

The right side is perfect for capturing the Hoover Dam immediately after wheels-up from LAS. If flying at sunset, this side offers dramatic sky colors over the Great Plains, though you may need to close your window shade during the peak afternoon sun to avoid heat and glare.
