Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior chance of witnessing the breathtaking Greenland ice sheets and the rugged, lake-riddled wilderness of Northern Quebec and Labrador.

Right Side Highlights
8.8
🏔️

Greenland Ice Cap

On typical Great Circle routes, the vast white expanse and massive glaciers of southern Greenland provide an otherworldly sight.

🧊

Labrador Sea Icebergs

During spring and early summer, look down for large icebergs drifting off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

🌲

Labrador Wilderness

An endless tapestry of boreal forests, thousands of pristine lakes, and rocky outcrops as you move inland over Canada.

🏞️

Saguenay Fjord

The deep, dramatic waters where the Saguenay River meets the St. Lawrence are often visible from high altitudes.

⛰️

Laurentian Mountains

The ancient, rounded peaks of the Laurentians provide a beautiful backdrop just before the descent into the Montreal basin.

This is the 'cool' side of the plane for westbound flights. You avoid direct southern sun glare, making it easier to take photos. The highlight is Greenland; check the flight map about 3-4 hours after departure. Even if the route is slightly south, the visibility of the northern horizon is usually much more interesting on this side.

🏰

Windsor Castle

Shortly after takeoff from LHR, the historic castle and Great Park are often visible during the climb out.

☘️

Southern Irish Coast

Views of the rolling green hills of County Cork and the rugged cliffs of the Kerry coastline before hitting the Atlantic.

⛰️

Gaspé Peninsula

As you enter Canadian airspace, look south to see the Chic-Choc Mountains and the dramatic tip of the Quebec coast.

🏙️

Montreal Skyline

On the final descent, depending on the wind direction, you may get a sweeping view of Mount Royal and the downtown skyscrapers.

Sit here if you prefer views of the Southern UK and Ireland upon departure. On arrival into YUL, this side often faces the sun, so keep your window shade partially closed to avoid glare while crossing the ocean. The St. Lawrence River views are excellent during the final 30 minutes of flight.
