Our Recommendation
8.9

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer spectacular Alpine crossings, the right side is preferred for its potential panoramic view of the historic center of Venice and the Grand Canal during the final approach into Marco Polo Airport.

Right Side Highlights

⛰️

Jura Mountains

The folded limestone ridges of the Jura range marking the border between France and Switzerland.

💧

Lake Lucerne

The deep blue, multi-armed lake nestled among the Swiss peaks is often visible under the wing.

❄️

Mont Blanc Massif

On clear days, the snow-capped roof of Europe can be seen in the distance to the southwest.

🌊

Lake Garda

Italy's largest lake is a prominent landmark during the initial descent phase into the Venetian plains.

🎭

Venice Historic Center

If the plane approaches from the west/south for Runway 04, you get an unparalleled view of the main island and the S-shaped Grand Canal.

The right side is the 'money seat' for the approach into Venice. Request a window seat away from the wing to ensure an unobstructed view of the historic city. During winter, look for the stark contrast between the snow-heavy Alps and the greening Po Valley.

🍾

Champagne Vineyards

View the geometric patterns of the famous French vineyards in the Reims region shortly after departure.

🌲

The Vosges Mountains

Dense forests and rounded peaks of Eastern France visible as you head toward the Swiss border.

🏔️

Swiss-Austrian Alps

A dramatic landscape of jagged peaks and deep valleys as the flight crosses the central Alpine massif.

🧗

The Dolomites

Distinctive limestone formations and pale rock faces of the Italian Dolomites visible to the east.

🚤

Northern Lagoon

The intricate network of salt marshes and small islands like Burano and Torcello during descent.

Sit on the left for morning flights to avoid direct sun glare. This side provides excellent views of the rugged Dolomites just before the descent begins. Watch for the colorful island of Burano as the plane enters the Venetian airspace.
