Our Recommendation
9.2

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers a more direct and dramatic perspective of the Julian Alps and the snow-capped giants of the Hohe Tauern, including proximity to the highest peaks in Austria and Slovenia.

Left Side Highlights
9.2
🏔️

Triglav National Park

Shortly after takeoff, view Slovenia's highest peak and the jagged limestone ridges of the Julian Alps.

❄️

Großglockner

On a clear day, look out for Austria's highest mountain and the Pasterze Glacier in the Hohe Tauern range.

🏞️

Zillertal Alps

Pass over the dramatic glaciated peaks and deep green valleys of the Tyrolean border region.

🌊

Lake Tegernsee

During the descent into Munich, spot this vibrant blue lake nestled in the Bavarian Prealps.

🏙️

Bad Tölz

A clear view of the historic town on the Isar river as the plane levels out for the final approach.

Sit on the left for the most consistent mountain views. Morning flights are ideal as the sun illuminates the southern faces of the Alps, while late afternoon provides dramatic shadows across the glaciers. Since this is a very short flight (approx. 45-60 mins), keep your window shade up from the moment of takeoff to see the rapid transition from the Ljubljana basin to high alpine terrain.

Right Side Highlights
8.4
⛰️

Kamnik-Savinja Alps

Rugged peaks rising sharply to the northeast of Ljubljana immediately after departure.

💧

Wörthersee

Views of the large turquoise lake near Klagenfurt as the flight crosses into Austrian airspace.

🏔️

Dachstein Massif

The massive limestone plateau and glacier are visible to the east while cruising over the Tauern mountains.

🌊

Lake Chiemsee

Known as the Bavarian Sea, this massive lake is often visible on the right during the approach from the southeast.

🏟️

Allianz Arena

If landing from the east, look for the glowing white 'inflatable' stadium on the northern outskirts of Munich.

The right side is excellent for seeing the Austrian Lake District and the sprawling Bavarian landscape. If the flight path takes a more easterly route, the view of Lake Chiemsee is spectacular. Use binoculars or a zoom lens to spot the castles on Chiemsee's islands. Be aware that the sun can be quite strong on this side during midday flights heading north-northwest.
