Our Recommendation
8.5

Left Side of the Plane

The left side (Port) is superior for this transcontinental journey, providing a spectacular view of the Rocky Mountain Front as you approach Alberta, along with the unique geological features of the Badlands and the Mississippi River crossing.

Left Side Highlights
8.5
🏖️

Emerald Coast

Bird's-eye views of the white sand beaches and turquoise waters of the Florida Panhandle during departure.

🌊

Mississippi River

A grand crossing of North America's largest river system, typically seen over the mid-continental United States.

🌾

Nebraska Sandhills

The vast, undulating patterns of the grass-stabilized sand dunes in north-central Nebraska.

🏜️

Badlands National Park

Aerial views of the rugged, eroded spires and colorful geological layers of the South Dakota landscape.

🏔️

Rocky Mountain Front

The dramatic rise of the snow-capped peaks against the flat plains as the aircraft nears the Canadian border.

Opt for the left side on morning flights to have the sun behind you, perfectly illuminating the Rocky Mountains during the final hour of flight. During winter, look for the 'frozen' patterns of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. This side also offers the best chance to see a sunset if taking a late afternoon flight from Orlando.

Right Side Highlights
7.2
🎡

Orlando Lake District

The intricate patchwork of circular sinkhole lakes and theme park landmarks immediately after takeoff.

⛰️

Appalachian Foothills

The western edges of the Appalachian range visible during the climb out of the Southeast.

🌊

Missouri River

Long stretches of the winding Missouri River as the flight path tracks toward the Dakotas.

🚜

Prairie Quilt

The massive 'patchwork quilt' of agricultural fields stretching across the Canadian Prairies into Alberta.

🏙️

Calgary Skyline

Excellent views of the Calgary Tower and the downtown business district during the approach to YYC.

The right side is excellent for early morning departures to catch the sunrise over the Atlantic coast. As you cross the border into Canada, keep an eye out for the vast, geometric patterns of northern farming. On clear days, you may see the distant Great Lakes to the north-east if the flight path stays more northerly.
