Our Recommendation
8.5

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers superior views of Mexico's volcanic belt, including the Nevado de Toluca, and provides a front-row seat to the rugged peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental during the descent into Durango.

Left Side Highlights
8.5
🌋

Nevado de Toluca

Visible shortly after takeoff, this massive extinct volcano features spectacular crater lakes.

🌲

Michoacán Highlands

Dense forests and rolling green hills of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.

⛰️

Sierra Madre Occidental

Dramatic mountain ridges and deep canyons as the plane enters the state of Durango.

🌅

Western Horizon

On evening flights, the sun sets over the Pacific-facing ranges, casting long shadows over the landscape.

Sit on the left to avoid the harsh morning sun while getting the best views of the high-altitude volcanoes. Watch for the Nevado de Toluca within the first 15 minutes of flight. This side is also excellent for sunset views on late afternoon departures.

Right Side Highlights
7.8
🛕

Teotihuacán Pyramids

Often visible during the initial climb if the flight path tracks north-northeast out of MEX.

🏙️

Querétaro City

Views of the sprawling colonial city and its famous 18th-century stone aqueduct.

🌵

High Altiplano

The arid beauty of the central Mexican plateau, featuring expansive semi-desert terrain.

⛰️

Cerro de la Bufa

The iconic rock formation overlooking the historic mining city of Zacatecas.

The right side is perfect for spotting historical landmarks and the unique geology of the high plateau. If flying in the afternoon, be aware that this side will face the direct sun, which can make the cabin warmer and photos more difficult due to glare.
