MRY → LAS
Which side of the plane to sit from Monterey Peninsula Airport (Monterey) to McCarran International Airport (Las Vegas)?
Left Side of the Plane
The left side offers a superior panoramic view of the Monterey coastline immediately after takeoff and provides the most consistent vantage point for the Las Vegas Strip during the descent into the desert valley.
Monterey Bay
A stunning look at the crescent-shaped coastline and the deep blue waters of the Pacific shortly after lifting off.
Southern Sierra Nevada
Dramatic views of the rugged mountain peaks and the high-altitude wilderness as you cross the California interior.
Death Valley
A glimpse into the vast, shimmering salt flats and the stark, colorful basins of the northern Mojave desert.
The Las Vegas Strip
The premier view of the world-famous casinos, the High Roller, and the Sphere as the aircraft lines up for approach.
Choose a window seat on the left (port) side for the best chance of seeing the Las Vegas Strip. For morning departures, the sun will be behind the aircraft or on the right, providing excellent lighting for photos of the Sierra Nevada. On the approach into LAS, look out for the Sphere's vibrant LED displays which are particularly striking during twilight or night flights.
Pinnacles National Park
The unique, jagged volcanic rock formations of the Gabilan Range visible early in the flight.
San Joaquin Valley
A geometric tapestry of California's most productive agricultural heartland and massive fruit orchards.
Mojave Air & Space Port
The famous aircraft 'boneyard' where hundreds of retired commercial airliners are stored in the dry desert air.
Red Rock Canyon
Vibrant crimson sandstone cliffs and desert scenery just west of the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
The right side is ideal for spotting aviation enthusiasts' landmarks like the Mojave boneyard. Be aware that on morning flights, this side will experience significant sun glare. During winter months, watch for snow-capped peaks in the Tehachapi Mountains. If landing on runways 8L or 8R, you may get a view of the southern end of the Strip, but it is less guaranteed than the left side's view.
