MSP → LAS
Which side of the plane to sit from Minneapolis-St Paul International/Wold-Chamberlain Airport (Minneapolis) to McCarran International Airport (Las Vegas)?
Left Side of the Plane
The left side of the aircraft is widely considered the superior choice for this route, particularly for the dramatic finale. As you approach Las Vegas from the northeast, the left side offers prime views of Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, and, most importantly, a stunning panoramic view of the Las Vegas Strip during the final descent into Harry Reid International Airport.
Twin Cities & Mississippi
Aerial views of St. Paul and the winding Mississippi River shortly after takeoff.
Southern Rockies
Snow-capped peaks of the Colorado Rockies visible during the mid-flight cruise.
Canyonlands National Park
The intricate network of canyons and colorful rock layers of southern Utah.
Lake Mead
The vast turquoise waters of the reservoir contrasting sharply against the Mojave Desert.
Hoover Dam
A clear view of the massive concrete arch-gravity dam on the border of Arizona and Nevada.
The Las Vegas Strip
An iconic close-up view of the mega-resorts and neon lights during the final approach.
Book a window seat on the left (Port) side and try to fly in the late afternoon. The setting sun will illuminate the Utah canyons in deep reds, and you will arrive in Las Vegas just as the Strip begins to glow. Ensure you are looking out at least 20 minutes before landing to catch the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
Minneapolis Skyline
A direct view of the downtown Minneapolis skyscrapers if departing to the south.
Badlands Landscapes
The rugged, eroded formations of South Dakota and Nebraska visible to the north.
Uinta Mountains
The high-altitude peaks of northern Utah's unique east-west mountain range.
Zion National Park
The towering sandstone cliffs and deep narrow canyons of southwest Utah.
Valley of Fire
Vibrant red Aztec sandstone formations located just north of the flight path.
The right side is excellent for morning flights as it avoids the direct glare of the southern sun. It provides a more expansive view of the rugged terrain of the Northern Rockies and the Great Salt Desert in the distance. During the descent, keep an eye out for the brilliant red rocks of the Valley of Fire State Park.
