Our Recommendation
9.2

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers spectacular, close-up views of Mexico's most iconic volcanic peaks, including the highest mountain in the country, Pico de Orizaba, and the twin volcanoes guarding the Valley of Mexico.

Left Side Highlights
9.2
🌋

Pico de Orizaba

The highest peak in Mexico, also known as Citlaltépetl, often rises above the clouds with its snow-capped cone visible shortly after reaching cruising altitude.

⛰️

Sierra Madre Oriental

Dramatic views of the rugged mountain range that separates the coastal plains of Veracruz from the high central plateau.

🔥

Popocatépetl

The famous active volcano often seen venting steam or ash as the aircraft begins its final descent into the Mexico City basin.

❄️

Iztaccíhuatl

Located right next to 'Popo', the 'Sleeping Woman' volcano offers a stunning jagged profile of its snowy ridge.

🏙️

Southern CDMX

Depending on the wind-dependent approach pattern, you may see the dense urban sprawl and the Xochimilco canals to the south.

Sit on the left (Port side) for the best views of the volcanoes. Book an early morning flight (before 9:00 AM) for the clearest visibility, as smog and afternoon clouds often obscure the mountain peaks later in the day. Keep your camera ready about 20-30 minutes after takeoff from MTT to catch Pico de Orizaba.

🌊

Gulf of Mexico Coastline

Immediate views of the Coatzacoalcos river mouth and the industrial coastline as the plane climbs away from MTT.

🌾

Veracruz Lowlands

A patchwork of tropical agriculture, rivers, and wetlands that characterize the humid eastern plains.

🏘️

Nezahualcóyotl

As you descend into MEX, the right side provides a bird's-eye view of the incredibly dense, grid-like urban planning of the eastern suburbs.

🛫

MEX Airport Operations

On final approach, you typically get an excellent view of the terminal buildings and parallel runways of Benito Juarez International.

The right side is better for seeing the industrial landscape of the Gulf coast during departure. It also offers a fascinating perspective on the sheer scale of the Mexico City metropolitan area's eastern expansion. This side is often less prone to direct glare from the sun on afternoon flights heading west.
