MTY → CUL
Which side of the plane to sit from General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (Monterrey) to Bachigualato Federal International Airport (Culiacan)?
Left Side of the Plane
The left side offers the most iconic views of Monterrey's Cerro de la Silla shortly after takeoff and a spectacular perspective of the rugged Sierra Madre Occidental ridges during the crossing.
Cerro de la Silla
The famous saddle-shaped mountain and iconic symbol of Monterrey visible immediately after takeoff.
Monterrey Cityscape
A sweeping view of the metropolitan area and the Santa Catarina River winding through the valley.
Coahuila High Desert
Starkly beautiful arid landscapes and salt flats between Monterrey and the Laguna region.
Torreón Urban Area
View of the tri-city 'Comarca Lagunera' area nestled in the central plateau.
Sierra Madre Occidental
Dramatic views of high-altitude pine forests and jagged peaks as the plane crosses the continental divide.
Sinaloa Farmlands
Lush green agricultural grids of the Culiacán valley during the final approach.
For morning flights, sit on the left to avoid direct sun glare while capturing the shadows on the Sierra Madre Occidental. Choose a seat forward of the wing to ensure the engine doesn't block the view of the dramatic canyon drop-offs as you transition from the plateau to the coastal plain. If the flight departs to the East, the plane will loop back, giving you a secondary view of the city.
Cerro de las Mitras
Dramatic limestone ridges on the northern edge of Monterrey seen during the climb.
Bolsón de Mapimí
Vast, mysterious desert basins and remote mountain ranges of northern Coahuila.
Nazas River Basin
The winding path of the river that feeds the desert agricultural zones.
Northern Sierra Ridges
Rugged rock clusters and unique geological formations in the northern parts of the range.
Deep Ravines
Deep mountain canyons that characterize the western edge of the Sierra Madre.
Sea of Cortez Horizon
The shimmering blue waters of the Gulf of California visible in the distance during the final descent.
The right side is excellent for afternoon flights to see the sun illuminate the desert basins of Coahuila and Durango. Keep an eye out during the final 15 minutes of the flight; on clear days, you can see the shimmering waters of the Sea of Cortez on the horizon beyond Culiacán. This side often has less glare when flying West in the early morning hours.
