Our Recommendation
9.2

Right Side of the Plane

The right side is overwhelmingly superior for this route because it offers a clear view of Mount Fuji shortly after takeoff, followed by the dramatic coastline of southern Japan and Lantau Island upon arrival.

🗻

Mount Fuji

The most iconic landmark, visible on the right side approximately 15 to 25 minutes after departing Narita.

🏔️

Japanese Alps

Distant, snow-capped peaks of central Honshu visible during the first hour of flight.

🏞️

Shikoku Coastline

Beautiful views of the rugged southern coast of Shikoku and the Seto Inland Sea.

⛰️

Kyushu Mountains

Aerial views of the volcanic landscapes and green ridges of southern Kyushu.

🏯

Lantau Island

Close-up views of the Big Buddha statue and the mountainous terrain of Lantau on final approach.

🌉

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The world's longest sea-crossing bridge is clearly visible just before landing at HKG.

The right side is essential for seeing Mount Fuji; seat rows 15-25 are usually ideal to avoid wing obstruction. Fuji is best viewed on clear morning flights when visibility is highest. During winter months, the mountain's snow cap is much more prominent and photogenic. Watch the flight map closely about 20 minutes after takeoff.

🌊

Pacific Vistas

Expansive views of the vast Pacific Ocean for the majority of the cruise phase.

🏝️

Izu Islands

A chain of volcanic islands stretching south from Tokyo Bay into the Philippine Sea.

🚢

South China Sea

Dozens of cargo ships and tankers anchored or in transit near the Pearl River Delta.

🏙️

Hong Kong Island

Occasional views of the city skyline if the approach path takes the plane south of the airport.

Choose the left side for morning flights to see the sunrise over the Pacific without direct glare. On the descent into Hong Kong, watch for the massive container terminals and the dense skyscraper clusters of Hong Kong Island if the aircraft follows a southern approach pattern.
