Our Recommendation
8.5

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers a significantly more varied landscape, following the European coastline from France down to Portugal before providing a stunning volcanic approach over Lanzarote.

๐ŸŒŠ

French Atlantic Islands

Shortly after departure, look out for the islands of Noirmoutier, รŽle de Rรฉ, and รŽle d'Olรฉron hugging the French coast.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Picos de Europa

During the crossing of the Bay of Biscay, the jagged peaks of Northern Spain's Cantabrian Mountains often appear on the horizon.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น

Portuguese Coastline

Excellent views of the Lisbon peninsula, the Tagus River estuary, and the dramatic cliffs of the Alentejo region.

๐ŸŒ‹

Lanzarote Volcanos

As the flight nears its destination, you get a front-row seat to the lunar-like craters of Timanfaya National Park.

๐Ÿ๏ธ

Isla de Lobos

A clear view of this small, protected volcanic islet just off the northern tip of Fuerteventura during final descent.

Sit on the left (Port side) for morning flights to keep the sun behind you while viewing the coastline. This side is the 'land side' for the majority of the flight. Watch closely as you descend; the transition from the deep blue Atlantic to the reddish-brown volcanic soil of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura is striking. Use a polarizer on your camera to cut through the haze over the Bay of Biscay.

๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ

Bay of Biscay Shipping

Aerial views of major shipping lanes where cargo vessels and tankers cross the continental shelf.

Atlantic Sunset

On evening flights, this side provides an unobstructed and spectacular view of the sun setting into the ocean.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Corralejo Dunes

Just before landing, the massive white sand dunes of Corralejo appear against the turquoise water of the strait.

Choose the right side (Starboard) if you are traveling in the late afternoon or evening to enjoy a sunset over the Atlantic. While there is less land to see, the approach into FUE sometimes offers a great view of the northern Fuerteventura beaches. During mid-day, be prepared for significant glare as the sun will be on this side for the duration of the southbound journey.
