Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior view of the dramatic geological transitions of the American Southwest, including the Southern Rockies, the Arizona crater fields, and the iconic Los Angeles skyline during the final descent.

Right Side Highlights

⛰️

Sandia Mountains

Rugged limestone cliffs and peaks rising sharply east of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

☄️

Meteor Crater

A nearly perfect circular impact site over 500 feet deep in the northern Arizona desert.

🏜️

Sedona Red Rocks

Vibrant orange and red sandstone formations visible as the flight crosses into Arizona.

🏔️

San Bernardino Mountains

Often snow-capped peaks including Mount San Gorgonio, the highest point in Southern California.

🏢

Downtown LA Skyline

The skyscrapers of the Financial District and the Hollywood Sign are often visible during the downwind leg of the approach.

The right side is unbeatable for landmarks. Look for the Meteor Crater about midway through the flight. During the descent into LAX, the flight often tracks north of the city, giving the right side a panoramic view of the Los Angeles basin, the Hollywood Hills, and the Getty Center. Afternoon flights offer the best lighting for the red rocks of Arizona.

🌵

Sonoran Desert Landscapes

Expansive views of the high desert terrain of Southern Arizona and the Gila National Forest.

🌊

Salton Sea

California's largest, landlocked lake appears as a deep blue mirror amidst the arid Coachella Valley.

🏔️

San Jacinto Peak

The dramatic 10,834-foot granite peak that towers over the Palm Springs area.

🏙️

Orange County Coastline

As the plane turns for final approach, catch glimpses of the Pacific coast and Newport Beach.

Sit on the left for morning flights to avoid the direct glare of the southern sun. This side provides excellent views of the San Andreas Fault lines near the San Bernardino Mountains and the sprawling residential grids of the Inland Empire during the descent.
