Our Recommendation
7.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior view of Socotra's populated north coast upon takeoff and provides the most dramatic views of the Hadhramaut coastal mountains during the descent into Mukalla.

Right Side Highlights
7.8
🏙️

Hadiboh Waterfront

Views of the capital city of Socotra nestled between the mountains and the turquoise Arabian Sea.

🏝️

Qalansiyah Coast

Potential distant views of the Detwah Lagoon and the stunning western tip of the island.

🏜️

Ras Baghashwa

The dramatic first point of contact with the Yemeni mainland, featuring rugged coastal cliffs.

⛰️

Hadhramaut Escarpment

Massive limestone plateaus and deeply carved wadis that characterize the south Arabian landscape.

The right side is the best for seeing the transition from the island to the mainland. For morning flights, the sun will be behind you as you approach Mukalla, illuminating the Hadhramaut mountains beautifully.

Left Side Highlights
7.2
🏔️

Hajhir Mountains

The jagged granite peaks and high plateaus that form the rugged interior heart of Socotra Island.

⏳

Southern Dunes

The expansive white sand plains of Steroh visible as the aircraft gains altitude and heads northwest.

🌊

Gulf of Aden

A vast expanse of deep blue water where the Indian Ocean meets the gateway to the Red Sea.

🏙️

Mukalla Port

The historical harbor and white-washed buildings of the city as the aircraft lines up for landing.

Sit on the left to see the high-altitude peaks of Socotra's interior. During afternoon flights, this side remains in the shade, providing better conditions for photography of the Mukalla skyline without glare.
