SDLGOT

Our Recommendation
8.5

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior view of Sweden's vast wilderness, the unique Siljan Ring, and a dramatic perspective of Lake Vänern's expansive coastline as you descend toward Gothenburg.

Right Side Highlights
8.5
🌲

Boreal Forests

Enjoy endless views of the deep green taiga forests of Hälsingland and Dalarna, crisscrossed by timber roads.

☄️

The Siljan Ring

Spot the distinctive circular lake system created by a massive meteorite impact millions of years ago.

🛶

Värmland Lakelands

A stunning mosaic of thousands of small, interconnected lakes and islands typical of the Värmland region.

🌊

Lake Vänern

Fly along the northern and western shores of the largest lake in the European Union, which often looks like an ocean from altitude.

🚢

Trollhättan & Göta älv

As you descend, look for the river Göta älv and the industrial landscape leading toward the Port of Gothenburg.

The right side is ideal for afternoon flights as the sun will be behind or above the plane, illuminating the landscape perfectly. Watch for the 'Big Hole' (Siljan) about 20 minutes into the flight. On the final approach to Landvetter, this side often provides a great view of the rugged Swedish west coast terrain.

🌊

The High Coast

Immediately after takeoff, witness the UNESCO World Heritage coastline where the land rises sharply from the Baltic Sea.

🏙️

Gävle and the Coast

Depending on the flight path, you may see the coastal city of Gävle and the surrounding archipelago of Uppland.

💧

Lake Vättern

In the distance to the southeast, the long, narrow silhouette of Sweden's second-largest lake is often visible in clear weather.

🌾

Västgöta Plains

The landscape transitions into the fertile agricultural heartland of Västergötland as you approach the west coast.

Sit on the left if you are taking a morning flight to see the sunrise over the Baltic Sea. It is also the best side for spotting the urban centers of central Sweden from a distance. During winter, the low sun can create significant glare on this side, so bring sunglasses.
