Our Recommendation
9.2

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer stunning views of the Aegean archipelago, the Right Side is slightly superior as it captures the majestic Mount Olympus shortly after takeoff and provides a better angle for the iconic Cyclades islands and the approach over the Cypriot coastline.

Right Side Highlights

☁️

Mount Olympus

The home of the Greek Gods. Look west shortly after departure from SKG to see Greece's highest peak rising above the clouds.

⛵

The Cyclades

A breathtaking aerial view of the white-washed islands including Mykonos, Naxos, and Amorgos scattered across the turquoise sea.

🏰

Rhodes

The 'Island of the Knights' is often visible in its entirety, showing the medieval city and the Acropolis of Lindos.

🌊

Akrotiri Peninsula

Observe the southern tip of Cyprus, including the Episkopi Bay and the British Overseas Territory areas during descent.

🦩

Larnaca Salt Lake

On final approach to LCA, you will fly directly over or beside the large salt lake, which turns pink in winter with flamingos.

The right side is ideal for afternoon flights to avoid the harsh glare of the southern sun. Ensure you look out immediately after takeoff to catch Mount Olympus across the Thermaic Gulf. During the descent into Larnaca, the right side usually provides the best view of the island's southern beaches and the salt lake.

Left Side Highlights

⛪

Mount Athos

View the secluded monastic state on the third 'finger' of the Halkidiki peninsula, featuring dramatic coastal cliffs and ancient monasteries.

🏝️

Samos and Chios

Spot these large, verdant islands nestled close to the Turkish coastline, offering a blend of mountainous terrain and deep blue bays.

📍

Kastellorizo

The tiny, easternmost Greek island appearing as a lonely gem in the vast Levantine Sea.

⛰️

Kyrenia Mountains

As you approach Cyprus, the jagged limestone peaks of the Pentadaktylos range are visible to the north.

Sit on the left for morning flights to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Aegean. Keep your eyes peeled about 10-15 minutes after takeoff for the three distinct peninsulas of Halkidiki. This side also offers a unique perspective of the Turkish mainland's rugged coastline throughout the mid-flight.
