SLH → TOH
Which side of the plane to sit from Sola Airport (Sola) to Torres Airstrip (Loh/Linua)?
Right Side of the Plane
The right side offers the most dramatic views of the volcanic archipelago, including the spectacular Ureparapara crater and the distinct island chain of the Torres group.
Ureparapara Island
A breathtaking view of the sea-filled volcanic caldera that forms a perfect natural harbor.
Vanua Lava Peaks
View of the rugged, jungle-clad volcanic mountains of the departure island shortly after takeoff.
Tegua and Metoma
Pass close to these small, remote islands of the Torres group before landing.
Loh-Linua Sandbar
The iconic white sand bridge that connects the islands of Loh and Linua at low tide.
This is the primary side for photography. Keep your camera ready about 10-15 minutes into the flight for the best view of Ureparapara. On the approach to TOH, the right side gives a perfect angle of the airstrip and the narrow channel between the islands. Tropical rain showers are common, so look for rainbows over the reefs.
Coral Sea Horizon
Uninterrupted views of the deep blue Coral Sea where it meets the horizon.
Linua Western Reefs
Fringing coral reefs visible as the aircraft makes its final descent into the Torres Airstrip.
Traditional Outriggers
Small local canoes occasionally visible in the shallow turquoise waters near the Loh coastline.
Sit on the left if you prefer looking out at the vast, tranquil ocean. Morning flights are better on this side to avoid the harsh glare of the afternoon sun reflecting off the water. Look for the distinct change in water color from deep navy to bright cyan as you cross the reef shelf near Linua.
