Our Recommendation
7.8

Left Side of the Plane

The left side offers the most dramatic views of the Ob River system immediately after takeoff and a more consistent perspective of the Ural Mountains' southern-stretching ridgeline.

Left Side Highlights
7.8
🌊

Ob River Delta

Stunning views of the massive, braided Ob River channels and surrounding wetlands near the takeoff point.

🏔️

Polar Urals Peaks

A breathtaking crossing of the ancient Ural Mountains, marking the geographical border between Asia and Europe.

🌲

Siberian Taiga

Dense, dark-green coniferous forests stretching for hundreds of miles, dotted with thousands of small lakes.

💧

Vychegda River

Meandering blue curves of the Vychegda river as the flight passes over the Komi Republic.

🏙️

Kolomna and Oka River

During the final descent into DME, views of the historic town of Kolomna at the confluence of the Moskva and Oka rivers.

Choose a window seat on the left for better lighting during morning flights, as the sun will be behind or above the aircraft. Keep your camera ready during the first 20 minutes for the Ob River and the 40-60 minute mark for the Ural Mountains crossing. In winter, the landscape is a stark, beautiful white, but requires high contrast settings for photography.

Right Side Highlights
7.2
❄️

Arctic Tundra

The stark, treeless beauty of the high-latitude tundra transitioning into forest-tundra zones.

🏔️

Northern Ural Crest

Views looking north toward the most remote and rugged sections of the Ural mountain range.

🌊

Pechora River Basin

The vast, remote river systems of northern Russia, often frozen solid for many months of the year.

🏡

Central Russian Uplands

A patchwork of agricultural fields and small traditional villages as you approach the Moscow region.

✈️

Moscow Outer Ring

The expanding infrastructure and forests of the Moscow Oblast during the arrival sequence.

The right side is excellent for afternoon or evening flights to catch the long Arctic sunset. During the winter months, look for the 'diamond dust' atmospheric phenomenon over the tundra. Be aware that the sun will be directly hitting this side for much of the journey if flying south-west in the afternoon, which may cause glare.
