Our Recommendation
9.2

Right Side of the Plane

The right side is significantly better for the approach into Venice Marco Polo. As the plane descends into the lagoon, passengers on the right are often treated to an iconic aerial view of the historic city, including the Grand Canal and St. Mark's Square, depending on the landing pattern.

Right Side Highlights

🌲

Sila National Park

Lush, forested plateaus and mountain lakes of the Calabrian highlands immediately after takeoff.

🏖️

Adriatic Coastline

The turquoise waters and sandy beaches of the Riviera del Conero and the Marche coastline.

🦆

Po River Delta

The intricate wetlands and branching river mouths where Italy's longest river enters the Adriatic Sea.

🇮🇹

Venetian Lagoon

A stunning panorama of the mosaic of islands, including Murano and Burano, surrounded by shallow waters.

🕍

Historic Venice

The ultimate highlight: a direct view of the Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace, and the winding Grand Canal during the final descent.

Book a window seat on the right (usually 'F') for the best chance of seeing the city of Venice. For the most dramatic lighting of the lagoon's colors, late afternoon flights are ideal. Ensure your seat is not over the wing to have an unobstructed view of the historic center during landing.

Left Side Highlights

🌋

Mount Vesuvius

On clear days, the distinct cone of the volcano and the sprawling Bay of Naples are visible shortly after departure.

🏔️

Apennine Mountain Range

Aerial views of the rugged spine of Italy, featuring limestone peaks and deep valleys of the central region.

🏛️

Distant Rome

Depending on the flight corridor, you may spot the urban sprawl of the capital and the volcanic lakes of Bracciano and Bolsena.

🌾

Po Valley

The transition from the mountains to the vast, flat agricultural plains of Northern Italy.

The left side is preferable for morning flights to avoid the sun's glare, which will be on the right. It offers better views of the inland landscape and the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula during the first half of the trip.
