Our Recommendation
7.6

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers superior views of the rugged Ouachita Mountains shortly after takeoff and provides a stunning perspective of the Florida peninsula's lake-dotted landscape during the descent into Sanford.

Right Side Highlights
7.6
⛰️

Ouachita Mountains

Dramatic views of the folded ridges and forested peaks of western Arkansas early in the flight.

🎣

Lake Eufaula

Oklahoma's largest lake with its intricate, jagged shoreline and numerous islands.

🏖️

Gulf Horizon

On clear days, the shimmering blue horizon of the Gulf of Mexico is visible to the far south while cruising over Alabama.

🚤

Central Florida Lakes

A bird's-eye view of Lake Apopka and the numerous smaller lakes surrounding the Sanford/Orlando area during final approach.

The right side is the prime spot for afternoon and sunset flights, offering spectacular colors over the Gulf horizon. During the descent into SFB, watch for the distinct 'thousand lakes' geography of Florida. This side often provides a clearer view of the transition from the red clay soils of the South to the sandy, marshy terrain of the Florida Panhandle and peninsula.

Left Side Highlights

🏙️

Tulsa Skyline

Aerial view of downtown Tulsa and the winding Arkansas River immediately after departure from TUL.

🌊

Mississippi River Crossing

A wide-angle view of the massive river system and its surrounding floodplains near the Arkansas-Mississippi border.

🌲

Talladega National Forest

The dense, rolling green canopy of the southern Appalachian foothills as the flight passes over Alabama.

🌳

Ocala National Forest

The vast subtropical forest and sand pine scrub of Central Florida visible during the initial descent.

Choose the left side for morning flights to avoid the harsh glare of the southern sun. This side is also excellent for spotting the urban sprawl of Birmingham or Atlanta depending on the specific air traffic control routing. Keep your camera ready about 40-50 minutes into the flight for the Mississippi River crossing, which is a major geographic landmark.
