Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

Flying south from Xi'an to Mianyang involves crossing the majestic Qinling Mountains, the natural boundary between North and South China. The right side offers superior views of the highest peaks, including the snow-capped Taibai Mountain, and provides a more dramatic perspective of the descent into the Sichuan Basin.

Right Side Highlights
8.8
🏔️

Taibai Mountain

The highest peak in the Qinling range, reaching 3,767 meters, often visible with snow cover and jagged alpine terrain.

🌲

Qinling National Park

Vast stretches of dense, untouched temperate forests which are home to the Giant Panda and Golden Monkey.

🪨

Longmen Mountains

Dramatic tectonic ridges that mark the rugged western boundary of the Sichuan Basin.

🛶

Fujiang River Gorge

The winding river path leading directly into Mianyang, carving through the hilly landscape of northern Sichuan.

The right side is the 'mountain side' for this route. Look out roughly 15-20 minutes after departure for the most dramatic high-altitude peaks. For morning flights, this side will be perfectly illuminated by the sun behind the plane, making it ideal for photography.

Left Side Highlights
8.2
🌊

Wei River Valley

Aerial view of the fertile plains and the Wei River winding through the Guanzhong region immediately after takeoff.

⛰️

Qinling Southern Slopes

Observe the steep, forested ridges that characterize the southern face of China's central mountain range.

💧

Han River Tributaries

Glittering river networks and deep mountain valleys that feed into the Han River system.

🏙️

Hanzhong Basin Edge

Distal views of the agricultural pockets nestled between the Qinling and Daba Mountains.

Sit on the left for softer lighting during late afternoon flights. This side is excellent for seeing the transition from the dry northern plains to the lush, humid valleys of the south. Ensure your window is clean as the humidity change can cause occasional misting.
