Our Recommendation
9.2

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a superior vantage point for Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and the breathtaking glaciers of the Coast Mountains during the descent.

Right Side Highlights
9.2
⛰️

Mount Robson

The most prominent peak in North America's Rocky Mountain range, towering at nearly 4,000 meters.

🌲

Wells Gray Wilderness

An expansive area of volcanic plateaus, deep canyons, and dense old-growth forests.

🗻

Coast Mountain Icefields

A spectacular display of jagged granite peaks and massive ice caps as you head toward the Pacific.

🏝️

The Sunshine Coast

The isolated coastal communities of Powell River and the Desolation Sound area.

🏔️

Comox Glacier

Known as the White Whale, this iconic glacier is visible on the final approach into the Comox Valley.

This is the premier side for peak-baggers. It provides the best angle for Mount Robson early in the flight and the dramatic fjords of the Sunshine Coast near the end. On a clear day, the glaciers of the Coast Range are unmatched. Use a polarizing filter for photos to cut through the haze over the Strait of Georgia.

Left Side Highlights
8.5
🌾

Alberta Prairies

The sprawling agricultural grid of central Alberta immediately following departure from Edmonton.

🏔️

Columbia Mountains

Distant views of the rugged Selkirk and Purcell ranges in the British Columbia interior.

🐍

Thompson River Valley

The winding river systems and arid benchlands near the Kamloops region.

🏙️

Fraser Valley

The lush greenery and population centers of the Lower Mainland visible to the south.

🌊

Strait of Georgia

The sparkling blue waters and dotted Gulf Islands between the mainland and Vancouver Island.

Sit on this side during morning flights to keep the sun behind you. You will get a better view of the southern mountain ranges and the sprawl of the Fraser Valley as you approach the coast. Watch for the turquoise colors of glacial lakes in the high alpine about midway through the flight.
