Our Recommendation
9.2

Right Side of the Plane

The right side is significantly more scenic as it provides a front-row seat to the iconic Mount Fuji and the dramatic peaks of the Southern Japan Alps during the transition from the San'in region to the Kanto Plain.

Right Side Highlights
9.2
🌋

Mount Daisen

Visible immediately after takeoff from YGJ, this 'mini-Fuji' is the highest peak in the Chugoku region.

🏖️

Tottori Sand Dunes

Japan's largest sand dunes are visible as a distinct golden patch along the coastline near the start of the cruise.

⛰️

Southern Japan Alps

A spectacular sequence of 3,000-meter peaks including Mt. Kita and Mt. Ainodake as you cross central Honshu.

🗻

Mount Fuji

The highlight of the trip, usually appearing on the right side as the plane approaches the Kanto region from the west.

🏙️

Tokyo Bay & Boso Peninsula

Panoramic views of the Tokyo metropolitan sprawl and the industrial ports of the bay during the approach pattern.

This is the 'Fuji Side.' To maximize the experience, book a window seat away from the wing (rows toward the front or very rear). Morning flights (8:00 AM - 10:00 AM) are best for visibility as clouds often gather around Mt. Fuji by midday. During winter, the contrast between the snow-capped peaks and the blue sky is breathtaking.

Left Side Highlights
7.4
🌊

Sea of Japan Coastline

Expansive views of the rugged San'in coast and the deep blue waters of the Sea of Japan shortly after takeoff.

🏝️

Oki Islands

On clear days, the volcanic silhouettes of the Oki archipelago can be spotted in the distance to the north.

🏔️

Northern Japan Alps

Distant but impressive views of the snow-capped Tateyama and Hakuba mountain ranges to the northeast.

🌊

Kashima-nada Sea

The final coastal views before the aircraft turns inland toward Narita, showing the long, straight beaches of Ibaraki.

🌾

Kanto Farmlands

A mosaic of rice paddies and rural settlements characteristic of the Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures during the final descent.

The left side is preferable for those who enjoy vast maritime horizons and distant mountain ranges. It is particularly striking during late afternoon flights when the 'blue hour' light reflects off the Sea of Japan. Keep an eye out for the Noto Peninsula extending into the sea on high-altitude segments.
