Our Recommendation
8.2

Right Side of the Plane

While the left side offers excellent views of the Dead Sea and Mediterranean coastline, the right side is preferred for its dramatic crossing of the Taurus Mountains and a high probability of seeing the Bosphorus and Istanbul's historic peninsula during the descent.

Right Side Highlights
8.2
🏜️

Wadi Rum

The stunning red sands and ancient rock monoliths of the Jordanian desert near the border with Saudi Arabia.

🏔️

Taurus Mountains

Dramatic, jagged peaks that are often snow-capped well into the spring months as you enter Turkey.

⚪

Lake Tuz

One of the world's largest hyper-saline lakes, appearing as a bright white or pinkish expanse in Central Anatolia.

🕌

The Bosphorus Strait

The iconic waterway dividing Europe and Asia, often visible alongside the Golden Horn on the final approach into IST.

The right side is essential for the iconic Istanbul approach. If the flight lands from the south (standard for northern winds), you will likely fly directly over the city, offering views of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. In the winter, the contrast between the red deserts of Jordan and the snowy Taurus Mountains is spectacular.

Left Side Highlights
7.8
🌊

Red Sea Shallows

Vibrant turquoise waters and coral reef patterns visible immediately after departure from Yanbu.

🧂

The Dead Sea

A clear view of the lowest point on Earth, featuring turquoise salt evaporation ponds and stark desert surroundings.

🏖️

Levantine Coast

The transition from the deserts of Jordan to the green Mediterranean coastlines of Lebanon and Syria.

🚢

Sea of Marmara

Densely packed cargo ships waiting to enter the Bosphorus as the plane prepares for landing.

Choose the left side for morning flights to keep the sun behind you, providing better lighting for photos of the Dead Sea. This side also offers a wider perspective of the Mediterranean horizon as you bypass Cyprus to the east.
