Our Recommendation
9.2

Left Side of the Plane

While both sides offer world-class alpine scenery, the left side typically provides the most dramatic views of the high southern Rockies and the jagged peaks of the Purcell Mountains before descending into the Okanagan Valley.

Left Side Highlights
9.2
🏔️

Mount Assiniboine

Known as the 'Matterhorn of the Rockies,' this iconic pyramid-shaped peak is often visible shortly after departure from Calgary.

🌲

Kootenay National Park

Expansive views of the Vermilion Range and the dense evergreen forests of the Kootenay river valley.

💧

Columbia River Valley

The flight crosses the lush wetlands and winding waterways of the upper Columbia River near Invermere.

❄️

Purcell Mountains

Glaciated terrain and rugged peaks that characterize the high-altitude wilderness between the Rockies and the Monashees.

🍇

Okanagan Highlands

The transition from alpine rock to the golden, rolling hills and vineyards as you approach Kelowna.

Sit on the left for the best morning light on the peaks. This side avoids the direct glare of the afternoon sun when flying west. Look for the distinct turquoise hue of glacial lakes during the summer months and the 'Matterhorn' peak about 15 minutes after takeoff.

Right Side Highlights
8.7
🏙️

Banff Townsite

On clear days, you can spot the town of Banff and the iconic Mount Rundle shortly after the climb out of Calgary.

🛣️

Rogers Pass

Views of the Trans-Canada Highway snaking through the high-altitude pass in Glacier National Park.

🌊

Shuswap Lake

The distinct H-shaped lake system is often visible to the northwest during the middle portion of the flight.

⛰️

Monashee Range

Crossing over the steep, craggy ridges that mark the final mountain barrier before the Okanagan Valley.

🚤

Okanagan Lake

Spectacular views of the 135km long lake and the floating bridge during the final descent into YLW.

The right side is ideal for afternoon flights to catch the sunset over the Monashee Mountains. During winter, look for the groomed runs of Big White or SilverStar ski resorts as you begin your final descent. Keep your camera ready for the contrast between the snow-capped peaks and the blue Okanagan Lake.
