Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

The right side offers a spectacular vantage point for the Greenland ice sheet, glaciers, and the dramatic impact craters of northern Quebec.

Right Side Highlights

🇬🇱

Greenland Ice Sheet

The absolute highlight of the route, featuring vast white expanses, deep blue crevasses, and jagged coastal fjords.

🧊

Iceberg Alley

Off the coast of Labrador, look for small white specks in the dark ocean which are often massive icebergs.

🔘

Manicouagan Reservoir

A massive, perfectly circular lake formed by an ancient meteorite impact, often called the Eye of Quebec.

🌲

Laurentian Mountains

The ancient, rolling peaks of the Canadian Shield covered in dense boreal forest and thousands of lakes.

Sit on the right for the best chance to see Greenland; the flight path usually passes directly over or just south of Kap Farvel. This side also avoids direct sun glare for most of the flight. For the best views of the Greenland glaciers, look out roughly 4 to 5 hours into the flight. In winter months, keep an eye out for the Aurora Borealis if the flight is delayed into the evening.

🏔️

Swiss Jura Mountains

Shortly after takeoff from Zurich, catch views of the folding limestone ridges of the Jura range.

🌊

St. George's Channel

Aerial views of the coastline where the Irish Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.

🚢

St. Lawrence River

As the flight nears Montreal, the massive scale of this historic maritime artery becomes visible.

🏙️

Montreal Skyline

On final approach, look for Mount Royal, the Olympic Stadium, and the downtown skyscrapers.

The left side typically faces south during this westward journey, meaning you may encounter significant sun glare throughout the day. However, it is the preferred side for capturing the sunset as you arrive in Montreal during the late afternoon. It also provides the best views of the St. Lawrence River's southern shore and the Eastern Townships during descent.
