Approaching from the east typically provides the best views of the sacred Ganges River and the historic ghats of Varanasi along the left side of the aircraft.
The right side is superior as it provides a front-row seat to the central Himalayan massifs during the climb out of Kathmandu and offers a more direct view of the Varanasi city sprawl and river bends during the landing sequence.
The left side offers a superior view of the geographic transition from the Western Ghats to the Indo-Gangetic plains, including the iconic Prayagraj Sangam.
The Right Side offers the most dramatic views of the rugged Vindhya Range foothills and the spectacular approach into Varanasi, where the Ganges River meanders prominently before reaching the holy city.
The left side offers a more varied landscape, transitioning from the Hooghly delta into the rugged fringes of the Chota Nagpur Plateau and providing the best views of major reservoirs and the massive Son River crossing.
The left side is slightly preferred as it often provides a clear view of the iconic Prayagraj Sangam (confluence of Ganga and Yamuna) during the descent into Varanasi, alongside better views of the Satpura range.
The left side is generally preferred for the potential to see the distant Himalayan range on clear days and for a superior view of the Ganges river during the descent into Varanasi.
