Our Recommendation
8.8

Right Side of the Plane

While both sides offer spectacular views of the Alaskan wilderness, the right side provides a superior look at the Gates of the Arctic National Park and the best chance to spot Denali on the horizon as you approach Fairbanks.

Right Side Highlights
8.8
🌲

Gates of the Arctic

Unrivaled views of one of the most remote and untouched national parks in the United States.

🏞️

John River Valley

A classic glacial valley carved deep into the mountains, offering dramatic scale and depth.

🏔️

Arrigetch Peaks

On exceptionally clear days, the distant granite spires of the Arrigetch can be seen to the southwest.

🦢

Minto Flats

A massive complex of wetlands, lakes, and rivers as the plane descends toward Fairbanks.

🏔️

Denali

On clear days, the highest peak in North America looms large on the southern horizon during the final 20 minutes of flight.

Sit on the right for the best perspective of the true wilderness. If flying in late autumn or winter, this side is also excellent for potential Aurora Borealis viewing if the flight is after dark. Keep your eyes south as you exit the mountains to catch the first glimpse of the Alaska Range.

Left Side Highlights
8.5
🏔️

Endicott Mountains

Stunning views of the rugged, snow-capped peaks of the central Brooks Range immediately after takeoff.

🛣️

Dalton Highway

The remote 'Haul Road' is often visible as a thin gravel ribbon cutting through the vast tundra.

🛢️

Trans-Alaska Pipeline

Spot the iconic silver pipeline zigzagging alongside the highway through the hills.

🌊

Yukon River Crossing

A massive, wide channel of water that marks the transition into the Interior region.

⛰️

White Mountains

Unique limestone ridges and jagged formations north of the Tanana Valley.

For the best photography, choose a morning flight when the sun illuminates the eastern slopes of the Brooks Range. Look for the glint of the pipeline—it is one of the few man-made structures visible for hundreds of miles.
